Youthwork at St Mary’s

Our youthwork in Fairford and the surrounding area (South Cotswold Team) is led by full-time youth worker, Chris Saunders.

After 15 years in the role, Chris is well known and involved in a multitude of ventures including an active role in all 9 primary schools within the team, including Fairford Primary.

Chris offers a mixture of assemblies and lunchtime clubs with particular focus on the y6s (top class) who are on the cusp of moving to secondary school. Indeed, Chris is in the process of giving out 160 helpful booklets (called It’s Your Move) to y6s via class assemblies while unpacking the potential highlights and challenges with pupils at this significant time for them (June 24).

In addition, Chris currently runs two clubs at Farmors School where the aim is give continuity to primary school relationships as well as building new ones.

In Fairford, there is a weekly faith-based discussion group called Thirst, open to all 11-14 year olds, where we mix conversation with games and help young people to grow socially and spiritually. There are various trips through the year including at least one residential plus an opportunity to serve the local community. Chris also runs confirmation classes, has previously taken groups on mission trips to Romania (currently on hold) as well as co-leading a Team-wide Sunday group in Lechlade called the Grid.

There are many other areas of involvement but if you would like to know more in order to pray effectively, volunteer or just to chat then Chris would be happy to hear from you on 07918 732040 or contact him via email.
